Tied to the political/economic concept of autogestión (worker or community self-management, historically associated with anarchist and cooperative movements) — also used more loosely for a person or team managing their own affairs without oversight.

In its political sense, don't flatten it to a synonym of 'being independent' — autogestión specifically implies collective, non-hierarchical self-management of an organization or workplace, not just individual autonomy.
