anticuar

To make something outdated or obsolete, almost always used reflexively, anticuarse — for a technology, custom, or word falling out of use (este modelo se anticuó en pocos años). Related to anticuado (old-fashioned) and antigüedades (antiques).

• Ese software se anticuó apenas salió el nuevo sistema operativo. — That software became obsolete as soon as the new operating system came out.
• Algunas palabras se anticuaron y ya nadie las usa. — Some words became outdated and no one uses them anymore.
• El modelo anterior se anticuó muy rápido en el mercado. — The previous model became outdated very quickly in the market.

Using anticuar transitively as often as the reflexive anticuarse — in practice, the reflexive form (something becoming outdated on its own) is far more common than someone actively 'anticuar-ing' an object.
