ahitar

to surfeit, to satiate

Usage

An old verb with two unrelated senses that happen to share a spelling: to surfeit or sicken someone from overeating (an archaic relative of the adjective ahíto, "stuffed, fed up"), and, in a separate technical/legal use, to physically mark out a boundary line (a hito being a boundary marker). Both are rare; modern Spanish reaches for empachar or hartar for the first sense and deslindar or amojonar for the second.

Examples
  • Tanto dulce lo ahitó por completo. So much sweet food left him completely stuffed and sick.
  • Los agrimensores ahitaron el terreno con mojones de piedra. The surveyors marked out the land's boundary with stone markers.
  • Estaba ahíto de tantas promesas incumplidas. He was fed up with so many broken promises.
Common mistake

Assuming ahitar only means "to overeat" — the boundary-marking sense is a completely separate, unrelated meaning that surfaces mainly in old land-survey or legal documents.
