Usage

An affectionate, informal verb for exchanging little kisses or pecks — se bécoter describes a couple kissing playfully. Lighter and cuter in tone than embrasser, and much milder than the slang galocher (to French-kiss).

Examples

Les amoureux se bécotaient sur le banc du parc. — The lovebirds were kissing on the park bench.
Elle l'a bécoté sur la joue avant de partir. — She gave him a peck on the cheek before leaving.
Ils n'arrêtent pas de se bécoter depuis leur rencontre. — They haven't stopped smooching since they met.

Common mistake

Bécoter is playful and mild — don't reach for it to translate a serious romantic kiss; embrasser is the neutral, all-purpose verb for "to kiss."
