cascarla

An informal, slightly vulgar way to say 'to die' or 'to kick the bucket': la cascó de un infarto (he kicked the bucket from a heart attack). Built on the crack/break sense of cascar, the way English 'to croak' plays on a sudden, blunt sound.

• El actor la cascó a los noventa años. — The actor kicked the bucket at ninety.
• Si sigues fumando así, vas a cascarla pronto. — If you keep smoking like that, you're going to kick the bucket soon.
• Dicen que el perro la cascó mientras dormía. — They say the dog kicked the bucket in its sleep.

This is blunt, informal slang for dying — not appropriate around someone who's grieving, where morir or fallecer (to pass away) are the respectful choices.
