A regional (mostly Río de la Plata) variant of cabestrear — for an animal to follow calmly on the halter, or figuratively, for a person to go along passively with someone else's lead. Rural, ranching vocabulary, not standard in most Spanish-speaking regions.
Don't confuse this with cabestrar (to put a halter on in the first place) — cabrestear/cabestrear describe the animal's (or person's) docile following behavior once haltered, not the act of haltering.
