autocalificarse

To describe or label oneself in a particular way, often self-assessment or self-labeling — se autocalificó de 'experto' sin tener el título. Common in surveys (autocalificarse del 1 al 10) and in critical commentary about self-given labels.

• En la encuesta, los alumnos debían autocalificarse del uno al diez. — In the survey, students had to rate themselves from one to ten.
• Se autocalifica de experto, aunque nunca estudió el tema. — He calls himself an expert, even though he never studied the subject.
• El equipo se autocalificó de manera demasiado generosa. — The team rated itself too generously.

Confusing autocalificarse (labeling or rating oneself) with autoclasificarse (qualifying for a competition) — the two look similar but mean different things.
