A formal, literary verb meaning to happen or occur — mostly seen in written narrative, journalism, and legal texts ('los hechos acaecidos aquella noche'). It's a defective verb, used almost exclusively in the third person; nobody says 'yo acaezco'.
Don't try to conjugate it in the first or second person — as a defective verb it's essentially confined to third-person forms; suceder or ocurrir are the everyday verbs for 'to happen' in any person.
Often confused with suceder.
